The 1980s: Reagan, the Cold War, Iran-Contra, yuppies, trash strikes, cities in decline. Say these phrases aloud and wait for someone to ask you what retro-nostalgia show you were watching last night. I know I'm not the only one who cringes at this thought. Yet for many of us, those years meant more than most people would ever dare to admit. The 60s may have been a cornerstone decade of change, protest, and revolution, but during the 80s, Philadelphia was the unlikely home of a cultural movement whose impact is still felt, yet barely acknowledged, today.
